Founded in 1992, the Underground Construction Technology Association was formed to promote education, training, research, and development related to underground construction. In 2008, the name was changed from the Gulf Coast Trenchless Association. "We believe the name change will appeal to a larger membership group in other regions, UCTA Vision Committee Chairperson Rod McCrary said at the time. He also said, "UCTA is the most comprehensive organization for underground construction technology."
