What Does
Arterials Mean?
Arterials are a system of roads which connects minor roads and streets to highways. Arterials are named because of their resemblance to the bodies system of arteries, the blood vessels which lead away from the heart and supply oxygen and nutrients to the body’s cells.
These roadways efficiently lead from the city center to the suburbs, to individual neighborhoods, and to individual houses. Because these roadways belong to a political subdivision state or province, they offer a multipurpose potential beyond simply facilitating street traffic.
Trenchlesspedia Explains Arterials
Because arterials lead to and from an urban center and, potentially, the location of the treatment plant, it’s only natural that they provide the right-of-way for utilities. Arterials and the access which these corridors provide from the treatment plant to the urban center to the individual home make them ideal to locate above-ground and subsurface placement of sewers, water mains, cable and electrical conduits.
